Hydrogreen Irrigation Inc.
Hydrogreen Irrigation Inc. was started back in 2008 by Brandon Happeney. They offer irrigation services for residential, commercial and sports fields. They are located in and around Barrie, Ontario, but travel into the GTA for jobs as well.
Brandon and a friend started their irrigation business when they were eighteen/nineteen on the side while they were working for another irrigation business. They were using the equipment from their full-time job, but were also compensating their boss completely for the use of equipment. This may have lasted 2 months, and their boss at the time approached them saying that they were basically competition now, and that he would have to fire them. With only a little in each of their bank accounts at the time they put it together and bought a small truck and trailer. They had some tupperware containers on the trailer that held all of their supplies and wondered why clients ever went with them in the first place based on how the business presented itself in the early stages. They added cutting lawns and landscaping to their services offered. They did that for about 3-4 years and then Brandon went off to University. While he was in University, his friend ran the business and when he finished he came back to a situation with the business where he ended up buying his buddy out.
He continued to offer all of the services listed above for a good little while and then with the advice of some friends with other businesses, Brandon decided it was best to focus on his best asset and what he was really good at - that was irrigation.
Since making this decision, Brandon finds it a lot easier to focus on the business and growing it. He doesn’t have to have a focus on a bunch of different projects that are completely different from one another in regards to work. All jobs are now irrigation.
Hydrogreen Irrigation Inc. employs 12 full-time guys now and they are always looking to expand with people who really want to be part of the industry and have a good head on their shoulders. With expanding the business, comes improvements. Brandon was excited to share that they are finally moving into a new shop at the beginning of March. This will streamline their processes and allow the business to continue to grow smoothly. He has ideas for some other businesses, so keep an eye out in case you see another business owned by Brandon.
Brandon was excited to chat about his business with us and share his story. When we went over accomplishments, he said they have received local awards, but an accomplishment that he is proud of is that he can put food on other’s tables.
Often you can find Hydrogreen working in spaces that you commonly frequent. They have working relationships with the TDSB (Toronto District School Board), Tanger Outlets, McDonald’s, Tim Hortons and much more. With the TDSB, they oversee the irrigation on 124 sports fields, which seems daunting to us, but Brandon has got a great team that has got it all figured out on how to properly approach big projects.
If you are looking for an irrigation business for your property, your business property or are a facilities manager, reach out to Brandon and his team! Stay tuned on their new website coming out and their social platforms. They are doing a special project plan for every day in March!
