True North Baits

True North Baits @truenorthbaits was started in the Fall of 2019 (officially)(unofficially Summer of 2019) by Jamie Stothart. He now runs the business with his girlfriend Nikki and has been nothing but busy with his growing business.

True North Baits originally was True North Built. Jamie had originally started a side business for woodworking, but when he took a turn with the business, the name only got a slight modification. True North Baits specializes in superior quality soft plastics, but carries a wide range of outdoor products as well.

Jamie had a fascination with soft plastics from a young age. He loved having large collections of them to use on a variety of species to see what worked best. As he grew older, he became a pro staff team member on multiple teams giving him first hand knowledge of the process and the industry. He never thought that it would be much more than a hobby for him, making baits. But, he quickly recognized the potential of the business after getting more and more requests for baits/colours from friends.

With the realization of the potential, he decided to put his I.T. background to good use and create a website as a showcase for his products as well as getting his product onto Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace to start selling.

He has since expanded his company further than these online marketplaces. First, getting his product into a popular GTA location and growing from there to over 30 retailers across Canada and in conversation with U.S. retailers. In addition to this growth, True North Baits has had multiple products on Amazon's "best sellers" and "hot releases" charts and has attended and been a vendor at multiple sports trade shows. They have been feature on the cover of the 2022 Just Fishing Magazine (Ice Edition) with one of their team members and I am sure we will see their name again in other fishing magazines.

Jamie said "If you're able to make a living at doing something you're passionate about, then I think you're crazy not to." And that is exactly what he has done.

Some challenges have come up along the way for True North Baits. As many fishermen know, the soft plastics market is very saturated. With that challenge, Jamie and Nikki had to figure out the best way to combat it. They offer many custom colours, are quick with bulk orders, and have created eight different designs exclusive to their company.
