Brainy Games

Brainy Games was started in 2016 by Mark Kolb the ‘Merchant of Fun’. Mark started the business out of his home in Aurora, Ontario.

When asking Mark about the name he said the name Brainy Games simply came from the opportunity of the domain .games being available.

The company was sprouted from an unfortunate event of Mark losing his programming job. Mark was able to utilize his skills from his programming job and creatively started to design games. One of his sons and him took a laser cutting course through NewMakeIt, which enabled him to be able to use a laser cutter which is the main star of the show beside Mark to make this company successful. Mark’s creativity is non-stop as he has around 300 products available on his website for individuals and families to stay entertained with.

Mark has designed many games over the past seven years, but had one in particular that was completely sold out and has now been licensed to Outset Media as Sidelinks. There have been over 11,000 copies of it sold in less than three years.

Mark enjoys making games and laser cutting them to make them tactile and fun for the family. He has the ability to take artwork and cut it into tactile puzzles. So, if you are an artist looking to make your artwork into a fun puzzle, Mark is your man!  In addition to tactile games, Mark has also published activity books and online games.

Some challenges over the years for him have been being able to get the exposure to sell more games as well as finding/designing a game that is easy to produce in larger volumes. Larger volumes could mean this becoming a job one might think, but Mark doesn’t consider this to be a job for him, more of a hobby. In fact, if it started to feel like a job to him he said he might quit!

If you want to meet Mark or buy any of his games. Check him out at the Aurora Farmers Market and Artisan Fair on Saturdays from May to October. Or check out the website www.brainy.games
