Daymaker Coffee Roasters

Daymaker Coffee Roasters was started by Oliver Woodburn in June of 2022 in Mississauga, Ontario. They are a craft coffee roaster that strives to be a part of your day, possibly help make your day or even be a ‘Daymaker’!

Daymaker Coffee Roasters is built on a 3-pillar foundation.

  1. Coffee - specialty beans, ethically sourced and roasted to perfection

  2. Environment - packaged in a biodegradable bag

  3. Purpose (this is the cool one!)

From Oliver’s response - Daymaker Coffee is built on the social purpose of donating 3.21% of sales to support people with Down syndrome.  Why 3.21%?  People with Down syndrome have three copies of their 21st chromosome which contributes to their uniqueness.”

The name ‘daymaker’ came from an idea of Olivers to have an upbeat and inspirational natured brand. People generally start their day with a cup of coffee, he thought it would be great to be a part of this ritual by creating a coffee that is great tasting, so great that it might make your day!

For over 20 years, Oliver has had a passion for appreciating the tastes of his favourite things including coffee, whiskey, chocolate and wine. He loves to learn how all of them are made and what makes them different. His passion turned into a career eventually with the coffee brand.

Oliver was not always a business owner, he spent decades in corporate, more specifically food marketing. He started seeing negativity around him in the corporate world and did not enjoy being surrounded by it. He thought about what made him happy, great coffee was one thing! Turns out, that makes a lot of people happy - so, he thought about creating a business from there.

It was not an easy road to start the company, as you can imagine. Canada does not have the climate for coffee beans - so Oliver had to source out beans. He learned much more about business and the coffee world. He found a training network that helped him immensely, the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association). He also did numerous trial roastings and tastings with friends before settling on a coffee portfolio for Daymaker. He learned about incorporating, accounting, licensing, and insurance as well and how they came together in a business.

Daymaker currently has 9 selections of coffee to choose from:

  • 21 Reasons: Extra Special Blend - Medium Dark Roast

  • Clear Blue Morning - Medium Dark Filter Roast

  • Brazil - Medium Dark Filter Roast

  • Ethiopian Yirgacheffe - Medium Filter Roast

  • Costa Rica - Medium Filter Roast

  • Cold Brew - Medium Dark Roast

  • Double XO - Dark Filter Roast

  • No Regrets Decaf - Medium Roast

  • Born to Fly Espresso - Medium Dark Espresso Roast

When asking Oliver about any exciting milestones he has experienced since starting the business. He was excited to share that Daymaker Coffee Roasters has developed a collaboration with the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. This collaboration developed the creation of the 21 Reasons: Extra Special Blend. With the sale of this blend, 25% gets donated to CDSS. This blend is ‘extra special’ because it was also created inclusively. Daymaker Coffee Roasters invited a group of coffee loving adults with Down Syndrome to taste various coffees and choose their favourite, this became the blend in which they used.

A final note that Oliver wanted to share with our community is the following:

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day; a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.  We’ll be promoting our partnership with CDSS all March long and especially around the 21st.  The more bags of coffee we sell, the more we can donate to supporting people with Down syndrome.
