Timberwood Designs: A Family-Built Business Rooted in Craftsmanship, Connection, and Love

In a quiet corner of Ontario, Canada, what began in a sawdust-filled garage has blossomed into something truly special. Timberwood Designs, co-founded by husband-and-wife team Josh and Sarah, is a small business built on love—for family, for craftsmanship, and for the beautiful journey of parenthood.

Specializing in handcrafted wooden name signs and nursery décor, Timberwood Designs creates keepsakes that are as meaningful as they are lasting. Every piece is custom-made from solid hardwood with a level of care that can only come from something deeply personal.

“We’re a husband and wife team based in Ontario, and for us, the best part of Timberwood Designs is connecting with each of you. There’s no better feeling than hearing about your pregnancy, name ideas, and nursery inspiration—and helping your dream nursery come to life. It’s an honour.”

The couple’s journey into business began in 2020, inspired by the arrival of their children and a growing desire for meaningful, sustainable home décor. “We started Timberwood when our son was about six months old,” says Josh. “Sarah was passionate about moving away from plastic toys and toward quality materials, so we thought—why not create something beautiful for other families, too?”

Their parenting journey began in 2017, and their two children remain the heart of their inspiration. “We truly want every parent to feel what we felt when designing our children’s nurseries. We hope to help create that same magic through the custom signs we make.”

Josh, a hands-on craftsman with a background in hardwood flooring and entrepreneurship, handles production. Sarah brings her creative touch to branding, social media, and website design—while also working full-time as a specialist teacher for blind and deaf children. Together, they’ve grown Timberwood Designs from a side project to a thriving, full-scale business.

The name “Timberwood” reflects their deep respect for the materials they use—solid hardwood that’s warm, natural, and built to last. Every nursery sign and décor item is carefully made with quality and intention, meant to become a lasting part of a family’s story.

Their success has been driven not just by craftsmanship, but by connection. Social media has helped them grow a loyal community of parents and gift-givers, some of whom have followed their journey from day one. “We've had some viral moments,” Josh recalls, “but it’s the heartfelt messages that stay with us—like when someone tells us our sign made their nursery feel complete.”

Like any small business, Timberwood Designs has faced its challenges—balancing work and family life, supply chain hiccups, and the pressure of growth. But through it all, Sarah and Josh remain grounded in their purpose and grateful for the journey.

“Our passion is in creating unique, high-quality pieces that bring a sense of warmth and character to any home. We take pride in the craftsmanship of every piece, and we’re dedicated to giving our customers the best possible experience.”

From garage beginnings to a dedicated workshop, from new parents to business partners, Sarah and Josh have poured heart and soul into Timberwood Designs. And through it all, their mission remains the same: to help families celebrate life’s most meaningful moments with décor that tells a story.

“We are deeply grateful to have customers like you. Thank you for being here and entrusting us with your nursery details. It means the world.” - Josh and Sarah
